It was lovely to hear from you! I am sorry I haven’t written before, but I was really busy because of my exams. Fortunately, I passed it and I have plenty of time now. In 2 days we [me and Jane] are going on vacations to the USA when we were having great time 2 months ago. It would be lovely to meet there, what do you think? Answer as soon as possible, because we have to book rooms in our hotel. I was sorry to hear that Scooter is dead. He was so sweet pussy cat, I still can’t believe it...Could you tell what is wrong with Bob? I haven’t heard from him for ages and his phone doesn’t answer. I am getting worried, but I hope that everything is OK. You asked me what Evan’s been doing recently. His on his trip round the Poland! Really, he said that he wanted to beat the record. I can’t understand his ideas, but it’s his life and he can do whatever he wants to. It’s not my problem. Besides, I want you to know that me and Jane are getting married. we don’t know when and where, exactly, the marriage-ceremony will take place, but don’t worry - we will let you know! We tell you more when we meet in the USA. Do get in touch soon and tell me if you can make it. Regards to you all.

Wady twojej szkoły / uniwersytetu

Studying at Warsaw University, characterized by many students as “exhausting”, is tiring not only, because of demanding teachers and huge amount of material to cover during the limited number of sessions, but also because of a tremendous number of gaps between the classes. While the first two issues are what universities are generally about and there is little to do with them, gaps between the classes, although equally annoying, can be easily withdrawn. That is why I propose that there should not be any gaps between the classes at the University in Bialystok.
Gaps between the classes are a common phenomenon at my school. They can be thoroughly defined as periods of free time between the classes lasting at least as long as the shortest class does i.e. forty five minutes. There are no other conditions that need to be fulfilled. Gaps are the problem of all students, no matter if they are on their first, second or third year of studies and no matter if they start early or in the evening.
The main problem with gaps is that they make a typical student's day much longer. Students often have to spend twice as much time in school, as if they had to if there were not any gaps at all. What is more, usually the time is not enough to go back home, because a typical gap lasts from forty five minutes to half an hour and most students live far from the school. It results in learners sitting at school, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and senselessly passing time of their day. It makes them tired, irritated and considerably decreases the efficiency of their work on the following classes.
When asked to solve the problem, the authorities at the university do not consider gaps to be a problem, as they are in the timetable and everybody can plan their day to live with it. Although, it is true that students know when gaps occur, it is very little that they can do to make the phenomenon less tiring. The school is situated far from their homes in the downtown area of the city. The traffic and pollution outside is hard to stand and everybody prefers to stay at school anyway. The other argument of the authorities is that they do not have enough money to withdrawn gaps at all: it would involve taking on new teachers and creating new classrooms. It is true that the university lacks money, but it is not always much money that is necessary to solve the problem and that is the case now.
Dismissing all the gaps between the classes is impossible as the university does not have enough money and there are always more important areas to invest in. However, I think that it is a good idea to make that time more bearable. I propose to create a kind of a relaxation room in which students could sit comfortably in chairs, listen to peaceful music and contemplate the plants or even fall asleep. I would not cost much, but definitely make student's life more pleasant!
